What are the Science Cafes?
Roger and Rumiko are looking at a couple of flyers.

Roger: What are these?
Rumiko: They’re flyers for this year’s “Science Cafes.”
Roger: What are the Science Cafes?
Rumiko: They’re casual seminars about the ILC, presented by various experts.
Roger: Where are they held?
Rumiko: At the Ichinoseki City Library, in the Sun Room on the second floor.
Roger: When are they?
Rumiko: This fiscal year they are on August 2nd, September 12th, November 15th, and January 16th.
Roger: OK! I’ll apply for the next one!
ロジャー： これらはなんですか？
るみ子： 今年度の「いちのせきサイエンスカフェ」のチラシだよ。
ロジャー： サイエンスカフェって、何？
るみ子： 誰でも気軽に参加できる、様々な専門家によるILCに関するセミナーのこと。
ロジャー： どこで開催されるの？
るみ子： 一関図書館の2階にあるサンルームで。
ロジャー： いつ開催される？
るみ子： 今年度は8月2日、9月12日、11月15日、来年1月16日の開催になる。
ロジャー： オッケー！次の回を申し込んでおく！

ILC News
Jason has popped in to the ILC Promotion Division at the Ichinoseki City Office and is talking to Junko.
ジェイソンさんが一関市役所のILC推進課に立ち寄って、順子さんと話しています。
Jason: What are these?
Junko: They’re editions of ILC News. We publish it four times a year. It contains news about ILC-related events in the city and other places.
Jason: Where can I get it?
Junko: They’re posted to all households in the city, but you can also view them online.The latest edition has been translated into English. Check it out at the link below!
ジェイソン： これらは何ですか？
順子： 『ILCニュース』です。年に4回発行します。市内外で行われたILC関連のイベントなどのニュースが入っています。
ジェイソン： どこで手に入れられるの？
順子： 市内の全世帯に配布されますが、インターネット上でも見られるよ。最新版は英語版も出ていて、下記リンクで見られます。
Superconducting Cavity
Alex and Atsushi popped up to the ILC exhibit on the second floor of the Daito Public Library in April, when a real sample of a superconducting cavity was also on display.
アレックスさんとあつしさんが今年4月に大東図書館2階のILC展示コーナーで「超伝導加速空洞」の本物も展示されていた期間に訪れました。
Atsushi: Look at this!
Alex: What is it?
Atsushi: It’s a “superconducting cavity”. About 16,000 of them would be used in the ILC.
Alex: Wow! Is this real?
Atsushi: Yep. It’s made of a metal called niobium.
Alex: I wonder if it’s heavy…
Atsushi: Don’t touch it! There is a security camera watching us!!
あつし： これ見て！
アレックス： なにこれ！？
あつし： 「超伝導加速空洞」だよ。ILCに約1万6千個が使われる。
アレックス： おお！これ、本物なの？
あつし： ええ。ニオブという金属で出来ている。
アレックス： 重いかな。。。
あつし： 触るな！防犯カメラが設置されているから！
Ordering a drink on the bullet train
Mike has just arrived in Japan from America and is on the bullet train from Tokyo to Ichinoseki.
マイクさんがアメリカから日本にやってきました。東京発一ノ関行きの新幹線に乗っています。
Mike: Excuse me.
Staff: Yes?
Mike: What time will we arrive at Ichinoseki station?
Staff: We’ll arrive just after 11 o’clock.
Mike: Do you have any drinks?
Staff: Yes, I have coffee and green tea.
Mike: Hmm, I’ll take a coffee, please.How much is it?
Staff: It’s 250 yen.(Mike hands money to the staff)
Staff: Here’s your change, thank you.
Mike: Thanks.
マイク：すみません。
スタッフ：はい♪
マイク：何時に一ノ関駅に着きますか？
スタッフ：11時過ぎに着きます。
マイク：何かお飲み物ありますか？
スタッフ：はい、コーヒーとお茶がございます。
マイク：じゃぁコーヒーをください。いくらですか？
スタッフ：250円になります。（マイクさんがお金を渡す）
スタッフ：おつりでございます。ありがとうございます♪
マイク：ありがとう。
Being asked for directions outside Ichinoseki station
Rio is waiting to be picked up outside Ichinoseki station when a tourist from Canada asks her for directions.
莉央さんが一ノ関駅前で迎えを待っていたらカナダからやってきた外国人観光客に道の案内を尋ねられます。
Bob: Excuse me.
Rio: Yes?
Bob: Could you tell me how to get to the Ichinoseki City Library?
Rio: Sure. Go straight down this street and turn right at the second traffic lights.
Bob: At the second traffic lights.
Rio: Then go down that street and the library is there on your left. It’s a new white building, with part of a train outside on display.
Bob: Thanks a lot.
Rio: You’re welcome.
ボブ：すみませんが。
莉央：はい♪
ボブ：一関図書館までの行き方を教えて頂けますか？
莉央：いいですよ～。この道路をまっすぐ行って頂いて、二つ目の信号で右に曲がってください。
ボブ：二つ目の信号でね。
莉央：そしたらその道をまっすぐ行って頂いて、すぐに図書館が左側にあります。新しい白いビルで、外に汽車の一部が展示されています。
ボブ：どうもありがとう。
莉央：どういたしまして。

A postcard from Geibi Gorge
Dear Hitomi,
Hey! How are you? I’m still in Ichinoseki. It’s in the south of Iwate Prefecture and there are many sightseeing spots. Have you ever heard of Geibi Gorge? I went there last week. It was very beautiful and green tea was served on the boat. That’s great isn’t it?
I’m planning to visit Gembi Gorge next. I haven’t been there yet.
I will write again soon.

やあ！元気にしている？まだ一関にいるよ。岩手県南にあって観光スポットが多い。猊鼻渓って聞いたことがあるかな？先週そこに行ってきた。とても綺麗で、船の上で抹茶が出された。すごいよね。
今度は厳美渓に行こうと思っている。あそこにまだ行ったことがない。
近いうちにまた書くね。

Talking about the sister city in Australia
Marqui, an ALT from America living in Senmaya, is talking with one of his first year junior high school students.
千厩町に住んでいる外国語指導助手であるアメリカ人のマーキーさんが自分が英語を教えている中学校の１年生と話しています。
Marqui: Did you know Ichinoseki is sister cities with Central Highlands in Australia?
Aya: I did not! Where is the Central Highlands?
Marqui: It’s in Queensland.
Aya: I’d like to go some time.
Marqui: Junior high school kids from Ichinoseki do a homestay there every year.
Aya: Wow!
Marqui: And high school kids from Australia come and stay here in Ichinoseki.
Aya: That’s great!
マーキー：一関って、オーストラリアにあるセントラルハイランズ市の姉妹都市であること、知っている？
あや：知らなかった！セントラルハイランズ市はどこだろう？
マーキー：クイーンズランド州にある。
あや：いつか行ってみたいな♪
マーキー：毎年、市内の中学生がホームスティしに行ってくる。
あや：まじか！
マーキー：そしてオーストラリアの高校生が一関にやってきて泊まるよ。
あや：とてもいいね！
